FINAL REPORT FOR ‘CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN PROJECT’
The target group of the project are disadvantaged youth and families in the Bela neighbourhood of Addis Ababa the direct beneficiaries and eight young people ( seven female and one male )and has been trained in sewing and nine young people (eight male and on female)who have been trained in musical instrument and vocal and constitute a musical Group “Selam Africa “ of these seventeen youth four are refugees from south sudan .
In the month of April and may the two trainers and Deug 27 foundation volunteers staff sought out of the proformas and purchased most of the budgeted equipment and materials needed with funds process was straight Forward for the sewing Equipment however for the musical Equipment some Difficulties due to non – Availability and price fluctuation were encountered. however all budgeted equipment was eventually purchased .
April and ,May were also spent in purchased organising and finalising the choice of specific beneficiaries , home visits were made to the families of especially our south Sudan youth . we also received names and the phone numbers from the local kebele . we received from them a formal letters of approval . this process entailed repeated visit and reminders to the kebele .
The climb the mountain project training began at the beginning of June month and climaxed with an out reach event on the Saturday 27 august which was held at the local ‘ KEBENA HOUSE “ a conference youth centre at bela the owner offer his building as venue for the event as a support for Deug 27 foundation . there was up breaking in the training for the schedule over these three month the trainers displayed consistency and Good healthy .
The trainers also show4ed consistence attendance and enthusiasm both and music trainees showed evident progress from the school month of July , music students would arrive early afternoon to practice they were eager to take turns in practicing on the different instrument the guitar , bass guitar , keyboards , hands Drum and percussions. Bela neighbourhood is cold , misty and rainy at this time choreography and active dance appreciated student progressed in instrumental ability self confidence and sense of creativity . very young members of the neur community would often attend to sing and play percussion.
The program thus provided a space where host community youth and south sudan refugee could come together and develop good neighbourly relation overall , the specific Goals of the project were attained to a high level. Eight male and Female host community and refugee youth have a basic qualification and some experience in sewing and design nine male and female youth have basic skills on their respective instrument and some experience of the playing together . A musical band of at least Five youth one female has been established , the SELAM AFRICA MUSICAL GROUP also the project has become known in the community through the out reach event mentioned above presented to the public on the 27 august 2022 . this event was attended by the family members , kebele staff , local presents , professional artist and pan Africanist a selection of radio , news paper and television journalist specifically FANA BC .
The sewing course graduates presented their product about twenty five bags , the musical group ‘ SELAM AFRICA ‘ performed a forty five minute set . some beneficiaries talked about what they have learned . seventeen Award certificates presented to the Graduates. Coffee and light performance was served. An award certificate was also reserved for the Austrian development agency whose banners were promantly displayed.
The deug 27 foundation hired a professional photographer for documentation of the event , Fana Tv , filmed the event , reserved interview and broadcast on wedensday 3 august morning .
